From 1pm on Wednesday 21 February 2024, Christchurch City and Selwyn District have moved to a transition to recovery period and the state of local emergency has ended.

The transition to recovery period enables a seamless transition from the emergency response phase to the recovery stage. It gives local CDEM teams the powers they may need during recovery, for example to clear damaged areas and dispose of waste and enables remedial works to be carried out where needed.
